The Housing Opportunity for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program addresses specific housing needs to low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
HOPWA is a “needs-based” program and clients must provide verifiable documentation of their inability to make their housing payment as it relates to their HIV disease. Federal guidelines require each recipient to contribute 30% of their household income to their monthly housing expense.
HOPWA services include: Short-Term Rent, Mortgage and Utility Assistance (STRMU), Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA), Permanent Housing Placement (PHP)-Deposit Assistance and Supportive Services to the Orlando Eligible Metropolitan Statistical Area (EMSA) which includes Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.
